Soos Creek Boat Ramp
The Soos Creek boat ramp, owned by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), is a popular access site on the mainstem Green River. This 1.8-acre site was choked with invasive blackberry, with little shade or native vegetation.
The Green River Coalition has been working to restore this site since 2013, diligently fighting to remove the blackberry. Mid Sound joined the partnership in 2016. In 2017 and 2018, we organized several work parties. In 2017, students from Mill Creek Middle School and the Duwamish Youth Corps worked together to plant native plants, with assistance from Dirt Corps and Sustainability Ambassadors. In 2018, students returned for a follow-up work party, spreading mulch around the newly-planted trees and shrubs to increase their chances of survival.
Green River Coalition, interns from the Green River College and Mid Sound will continue to maintain this site – watering the plants, fighting back the returning blackberries, and adding additional plants.
This project is funded by King County Cooperative Management Funds, directed by Green/Duwamish and Central Puget Sound Watershed, through King County Flood Control District.
